Our Board

The River School is supported by a committed Board that provides governance, oversight and stewardship, ensuring the school remains strong, compliant and true to its Neohumanist values.

Our governance structure supports ethical leadership, accountability and connection to the global network of Neohumanist schools, allowing the school community to focus on what matters most — children and learning.

Board members

Michael Towsey

Board Chair

Michael Towsey holds qualifications in biology, education, and computer science, including a PhD from the University of Queensland. He has held research positions at Queensland University of Technology since 1997, applying artificial intelligence to solve complex biological problems. Michael joined The River School Board in 2014 and plays a key role in governance, compliance, and reporting, helping ensure the school meets its regulatory obligations and operates smoothly behind the scenes.

Daniel Smith

Board Member

Daniel Smith is an experienced educator who has worked as a teacher for over thirty years and as a small‑school Principal for twenty years. He is currently the Principal of Cooran State School in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Daniel has a deep knowledge of yoga practice and philosophy, having studied under a range of systems in both India and Australia for more than twenty years. This understanding has led him to The River School and its Neohumanist philosophy.
