Funding and fees

Transparent, considered and aligned with our values

The River School

How The River School is funded

The River School is an independent, not-for-profit school. Our funding model supports a values-led, holistic education while ensuring families have clear and transparent information about fees and how they are applied.

School fees contribute directly to the delivery of high-quality learning experiences, the care and maintenance of our unique learning environment, and the ongoing development of programs that support the whole child — head, heart and hands.

The River School operates through a combination of government funding and parent fees. As an independent school, government funding contributes to core educational costs, while fees cover the additional resources, facilities and programs that allow us to offer a rich, holistic learning experience.

This funding model supports small class sizes, specialised programs, outdoor learning environments, creative spaces and wellbeing initiatives that are central to the River School philosophy

School fees

School fees are set annually and vary depending on year level. Fees are charged on a per-term basis and are payable in advance.Fees contribute to:

  • Classroom learning and teaching resources

  • Specialist programs, including arts, music, wellbeing and outdoor learning

  • Maintenance of school grounds and facilities

  • Curriculum development and learning support

  • Access to the natural environment, creative spaces and specialised learning areas

  • Detailed fee schedules for each year level are available on request or via the enrolment office.

Levies and additional costs

In addition to tuition fees, families may be charged levies to support specific aspects of school life. These may include curriculum levies, resource levies or activity-based costs that support hands-on learning experiences.

Where possible, The River School aims to minimise additional expenses and communicate clear expectations to families in advance.

Payment options

The River School offers flexible payment options to support families in managing school fees. Fees are typically invoiced per term, with alternative payment arrangements available by discussion with the school administration team.

Families are encouraged to contact the office if they wish to explore payment plans or need support with fee arrangements.

Parent volunteers are invaluable to every school community. The River School offers our families an opportunity to maintain their term fees at the base level ($1,470 p/child) by giving some of their time and energy to the school. Energy contributions can be made to the school at a rate of $20 per hour, up to a maximum of $200 p/term p/family i.e. 10 hours per term. Hours not worked per term are added to the term fees at $20 per hour for a maximum of 10 hours.

Payment of tuition fees

Families are invoiced for their school fees at the beginning of each term. Full payment of fees are due by the end of the 3rd week of term. However, families may choose to establish a payment plan that ensures the fees are paid in full by the end of each term.Payment plans must be submitted to the school for approval and must include regular (weekly or fortnightly) payments.
